Dental care for a toothache, will insurance help me now

Saturday, Nov. 6th 2010 7:32 AM

I have a back tooth that has be hurting me off and on mostly while I get or drink anything too hot or cold.   I do not have any dental insurance and I have not been to the dentist in a while.

I just nevery really gave it much thought to go to the dentist until now.   I am sure I am like many people on that score.  My friend told me it is too late now to get dental insurance to help me with my toothache since dental insurance have wating periods.  Is that true?

Your friend speak the truth when it comes to PPO or Indemnity dental insurance plans. Normally both do have waiting periods for basic and major dental needs. Your toothache would probably fall under a basic or major dental service.

Therefore getting a PPO or an Indemnity dental insurance plan may not be the best plan choice for your current needs. However, there still are HMO dental insurance plans and dental discount plans the would be able to help you with your current need.

Since when talking about HMO or dental discount plans they normally do not have the waiting periods for any dental service.

If an HMO plan does have waiting periods they are normally for a much short time period. Just read the plan terms to confirm so you get the best plan for your current dental issue.

Well you r friend is right and wrong at the same time. There are plans that do have long term waiting period for anything more then just a cleaning and X-rays.

However if you do want to have a dental insurance plan that generally does not have waiting periods for dental service you may want to review HMO dental insurance plans.

HMO plans are great low cost dental plans that normally have no waiting periods though there are a few that do so make sure you read to confirm the plan terms.

Otherwise at a dental discount plan that has not waiting periods for any dental services render and which is effective within the next business day from the order date.
